Serious Soccer Players

Harrison Travel Soccer

Development Program for Current 2nd Graders

Tryout for New Players - May 21

Competitive Travel Soccer play with the Harrison Youth Soccer Club (“HYSC”) begins in 3rd grade at the Under-9 age level.  HYSC is a not-for-profit corporation designed to foster the growth and promotion of youth soccer in Harrison in coordination with the Harrison Recreation Department.

Every year, HYSC holds tryouts for 2nd grade girls and boys who are interested in playing travel soccer.  This year, HYSC will be holding the tryouts on Friday, May 21, 2010 at SUNY Purchase on the Great Lawn.  The purpose of the tryouts is to evaluate each 2nd grade Harrison child interested in joining an Under-9 travel soccer team for competitive play next Fall.  Our hope is to allow everyone to play, but this will depend on the number of volunteer coaches and field availability.

In preparation for the May 21st tryouts, we will form development teams comprised of all interested 2nd graders.  Participation in the development program is strongly encouraged.  While your child may participate in the May 21st tryouts without enrolling in the development program, our experience is that the program develops the children’s ball skills and understanding of the game and allows them to get to know the children from other schools who will be their teammates next fall.  The trainers from the U-8 development program will also be some of the trainers conducting the tryouts.  A description of the development program is set forth below

Background on the HYSC

The HYSC currently has 22 teams competing in the Westchester Youth Soccer League (the “WYSL”).  There are 326 players and 50 coaches registered with us.  Our Club has grown dramatically in the last few years and has enjoyed its fair share of success.  The WYSL has two 9-10 game seasons – fall and spring.  All league games are played on Sunday afternoons.  Our U-9 teams generally practice on Fridays with professional trainers and most have one other practice session during the week.  Many of our players participate in other sports during the two soccer seasons, which is encouraged, but please understand that HYSC is designed for children who consider soccer to be one of their priority extra-curricular activities.

In addition to league games, some teams participate in tournaments throughout the year and indoor leagues during the winter.

Development Program for Current 2nd Graders

We will form development teams (girls and boys) of 2nd graders to practice this spring to prepare for the May 21st tryouts and the WYSL Fall 2010 season.  The 2nd graders will attend weekly practice sessions with professional trainers from Golden Touch Soccer beginning Friday, April 9, 2010 at SUNY Purchase on the Great Lawn.  Girls will practice from 3:45-4:45, and boys will practice from 4:45-5:45. The HYSC Spring 2010 training program costs $90 per player, and will continue on Fridays through Friday, June 11.  If you are interested in enrolling your child in the U-8 development program, you must go to the HYSC website at www.harrsiontravelsoccer.org, register on-line and complete a medical release form prior to the first session.  Online registration for the U8 development program will open on February 1, 2010.  Payment may be made by credit card on-line or by check payable to the Harrison Youth Soccer Club and then mailed to the Club Registrar, Alicia Bartman, at the address indicated on the Club website, and must be received prior to the first session. There is a possibility that enrollment in the development program may be closed at some point. depending on the number of children that sign up, but the tryouts are open to everyone.

Tryouts

Dates, Time & Location.

U8 (for U9 play next year) tryouts for girls and boys will take place on Friday, May 21st (girls from 3:45-4:45 and boys from 4:45-5:45) at SUNY Purchase on the Great Lawn.  Interested players must attend the tryout.  Kids must come ready to play: shinguards and soccer shoes are mandatory.  Bring a drink and dress appropriately for the weather.  If there are extraordinary circumstances that prevent attendance at the tryouts, please contact the training coordinator listed below.  During the tryouts, the Golden Touch Soccer trainers and senior HYSC coaches will run small-sided games to evaluate the players.  We intend to hold tryouts on the scheduled date rain or shine, but if there is inclement weather check the HYSC website at www.harrisontravelsoccer.org for additional information. Please do NOT have your child participate in the tryouts if s/he has decided not to play travel soccer next year as a third grader. Parent or Guardian should plan on staying at the tryout to learn more about the program.

Note: At the tryouts session on May 21st, all U8 players must submit a small (1” x 1”) headshot photo (clearly labeled with the child’s name), a copy of his/her birth certificate or passport and a WYSL medical release form (which is available on the Club website).  Children for whom there is no medical release form on file will not be permitted to participate in the tryout.

Coaching

If you are interested in coaching one of the U-9 travel soccer teams next year or know someone who is, please contact one of the individuals listed below.  Our recent experience suggests that 2 head coaches will be required for U-9 girls and 2-3 head coaches will be required for U-9 boys.

If your child is serious about soccer and wants to play against better competition throughout Westchester County, come and try out for the HYSC!!!!!

Please share this information and flyer with your friends and neighbors who may be interested in the program.  While information about tryouts will be posted on our website, we have distributed this flyer in the Harrison public schools and mailed it to 2d graders who participated in the Harrison recreation soccer program this past Fall and attend private schools where the flyer was not otherwise distributed.
